I bought this video card for Age of Empires 3 and I was wondering why it didn't work?

so the video cards a XFX PVT44AWANG GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X Video Card and I installed this unto my computer and I tried age of empires 3 and it did actually go to the game but it was really laggy and low graphic[meaning, like, the smoke coming out of the chimneys is in squares and when some one dies the blood splats in a square], and for instance if you clicked "single player game" it would take 1/2 a second before it would compute. Does it just not work because its an old cheap video card or is there some thing that can be switched in the settings to make it work? if it doesn't please give me a link to to a video card that actually would work and is compatible with an AGP 4x speed mother board. if you've had this video card before please also tell me how it worked. thanks
