I have a 88 307 olds with a 700r4 . can i hook a switch up to the overdrive?

Its a 88 Cadillac brougham with a 307 olds and a 700r4 transmission. I had to remove the ECM because I cannot afford the replacement at this time. Can I hook a toggle switch up to the overdrive??
