Could I use the slate leftover from a pool table for an outdoor patio?

I've been offered the three slabs of slate from an old pool table for FREE and the person suggested it could be used for an outdoor patio. My question is, will the slate hold up outdoors, or is it the porous kind that will crumble when exposed to rain?
